Irons.
I live in California and get tired of explaining that there is no connection between the "Ham" in West Ham to the "Hammers." Their eyes glaze over when I tell then we were once Thames Ironworks, a works team and the "Irons" or "Hammers" came from knocking rivets into the hull of a ship.
One friend asked me, "how do I cheer for West Ham, do I say, Go Ham?"

Most foreigners calll us Hammers because of the crossed hammers on the emblem of course,They are not aware of enough of our history to call us Irons.
